Technical mountainwear might not be the first thing you think of when talking about winter style, but if it were up to Yosuke Aizawa, founder and designer of White Mountaineering, it would be. For nearly fifteen years, the Tokyo-based brand has been turning out innovative, high quality, and most importantly, eye- catching designs that are every bit as functional on the mountain as they are stylish on the runways. And, for Fall/Winter 2020, this mix of design, functionality, craftsmanship, and innovation comes to life courtesy of a special Levi’s® Made & Crafted® and White Mountaineering capsule collection. Featuring a range of men’s and women’s jackets, tops, bottoms, and one dress, the collection fuses elements of White Mountaineering’s design language — stylish functionality, innovative fabrication — with the heritage and craftsmanship of Levi’s® Made & Crafted. It’s a collection that takes classic winter pieces in denim — like a fishtail parka, oversized cargo pants, or an M65 jacket — and re-engineers them with technical fabrics, utilitarian elements, and White Mountaineering’s iconic outerwear- meets-streetwear aesthetic.

Other highlights include a re-imagined version of a Levi’s® Sunset popover shirt from the Levi’s® archives, a women’s Trucker jacket mixing classic denim construction with technical accents and a nylon drawstring waist, and a denim and nylon version of the Levi’s® 505TM jean. The collection also gets a range of co- branding elements, including a back patch with White Mountaineering above the Levi’s® Made & Crafted® Two Horse Pull logo, internal tags with the collaborative logo lockup, and a special collaborative hangtag with the story of the collaboration on the back.

“We love White Mountaineering because their whole mission statement is about design, utility, and technology. And they’re the perfect collaboration partner for the Fall/Winter 2020 season because of our whole mountain concept. This collection is all about utility and tech, with a lot of mixed fabrications. It’s very outdoors, very utilitarian.”—Nicolle Arbour, Global Design Director, Levi’s® Made & Crafted®.
